The Tamyrii
History reveals little of the origins of the Tamyrii. Legend claims the race was born from the hands of the gods, favored above all due to their resemblance to their creators. Over time the people dedicated themselves to molding their world into monuments to those they owed their existence. In time the race flourished and swept across their world creating cities and trade networks with neighboring races and civilizations. There were times of conflict but for most of their existence there was peace allowing for the arts and sciences to blossom and allowing their world to become a much bigger place. Some say too big.
Many believed it was inevitable. A lasting peaceful coexistence was impossible to sustain. Their words came true when war erupted between the Varakii and the Tamyrii. The reason for the outbreak has been lost to time, the suffering continues to this day. No one was spared during the conflict as entire cities were wiped out. Then the unthinkable happened. The Tamyrii, having been pushed ever deeper into their realm were eventually bottled up into their last intact city. Hundreds of thousands of people, mostly refugees from other cities, awaited their fate. It came with a savage, thunderous roar in one fell swoop as their enemy poured over the walls and began slaughtering everyone.
A relatively small group of Tamyrii escaped the city and fled to the east hoping to find sanctuary in the mountains. What happened next is well documented and widely referred to as The Ascension. The refuges gathered at a rally point and awaited their escort when a sudden bright light swept over them. It was calming, with little radiant heat and left the people awash in a soothing sense of peace. All those who witnessed it claim they were dead and gone to the heavens when suddenly the beating of wings were heard and one by one all were lifted from where they stood or lay. Every person heard words of calm in their heads as they lost sight of the ground below and eventually fell into a deep sleep.
When they awoke the entire group was spread out in a large valley. Thousands of people slowly rose from their slumber and looked around them. The scene before them was amazing. The valley was wide, split by a slow moving river and forested on both sides. They could see no sign of the enemy or even the city they were fleeing. As they stood awestruck staring at the new world around them they heard the soft beat of wings slowly fading away then a voice in their head whisper “To begin anew.”
The modern Tamyrii are a hardy, capable people full of life and superstition. They have carved a life for themselves out of nothing. For nearly twelve thousand years they have survived in their mountain sanctuary. They re-dedicated themselves to their gods and the earth, carving a home from the very mountains that protect them. They have rebuilt a shattered society, flourishing in the verdant landscape granted to them by their gods.
