Collector History
The Kingdom of Tirnavos has not only become a stronghold against outside influences of the galaxy, but it’s mages have also delved into other practises and pursuits that have gained them the ire of many well informed. With no one to filter knowledge, the Collectors have had free rein to do as they will. Some have taken that freedom to extremes.
Three years after the cataclysm that caused the origin of the Chiss, Natevar, an animist from one of the many cities on the eastern side of the planetoid of Balen had a plan. He wanted to develop techniques to overcome death entirely. His studies took the older mage down some very dark roads - most of which met with failure. Not deterred, he used what he had learned and built upon those truths and pressed on. Having an extensive knowledge of herbalism, alchemy as well as anatomy Natevar combined various concoctions, taking copious notes and poring over each page ad nauseum until he finally found what he was looking for.
A brave soldier named Moyatar had been wounded griveously during a long battle with a Chiss criminal and deserved to be saved. The king which ruled the city that Natevar inhabited sent the wounded hero to the vaunted surgeon and asked for his help. Laying the son of a baron on the bed within a quiet chamber, the mage agreed to do what he could. However, once the others were gone, he found that the one now under his care had a mortal wound to his head, but also contained the remnants of a magically enhanced poison in him. If he was going to be able to save the soldier, he had to act fast.
After days had passed, Moyatar was stablized but, his caregiver realized that this soldier could be that one strong enough to test the mage’s theory. He told the soldier of his condition and probable results, then offered an alternative. Natevar would give his charge immortality. Seeing no other options, the fighter agreed.
With precision and timing, the operation began. Moyatar had been enduring the same concoctions that had been collecting dust on shelves, waiting for that one experimental subject to arrive and test their effectiveness. Natevar didn’t have to wait long for the results.
That night, Moyatar’s body died, but his mind and spirit continued to fuel the mechanism. Natevar had succeeded...to a point. Once Moyatar’s hunger grew, he found out what had really happened and became enraged. Hurriedly, Natevar explained that the procedure was successful and that everything they had striven to achieve had been won. As an example, he was allowed to demonstrate with the soldier’s own blade. Pulling it back out of his own body, the newly born Collector realized the truth and revelled in his invincibility, holding the sword high. A new age had been born.
Already over forty years old, the Chiss warrior was now an outcast among his own. Not willing to accept the corruption of the one now in their midst, Natevar was also chased from his lab and caught not long after by a squad of militia, then summarily executed for his crimes. Nature had not been allowed to follow it’s course and they could not allow this evil mage to continue his work. Moyatar would not go down as easily and escaped the streets of his own home, striking into the belt until finding a quiet place to dwell. There he would remain until a group of explorers settled in the planetoid nearby and offered the undead warrior a tool for his own uses.
They would name their new city Evergem.
